WHSmith transforms Newcastle Airport store into one-stop shop for travel essentials

WHSmith has transformed its Newcastle Airport store into a convenient one-stop shop for travel essentials, following an extensive refurbishment.

The 3,700 sq ft outlet, located in the award-winning Airport’s departure lounge, underwent a six-week makeover and has reopened in time for the busy Easter holidays.

As one of the Airport’s longest-serving concessions, the store now boasts an expanded health and beauty section, offering popular high street brands such as L’Oréal, Garnier, Nivea and Dr Paw Paw.

Passengers can enjoy a range of delicious food and drinks, including sandwiches, wraps, crisps and snacks - all available as part of a great-value Meal Deal.

The outlet also stocks essential gadgets such as phone chargers, headphones and battery packs, ensuring passengers can stay connected on the go.

WHSmith’s new design and layout not only enhances the customer experience but also pays homage to some of Newcastle’s famous buildings and landmarks.

The souvenirs and gift section reflects the vibrant street art of Ouseburn, featuring bright neon lights, striking murals and colourful displays.

The books and magazines area, offering the latest best-selling titles and Airport exclusives, has been inspired by Newcastle Helix, with its geometric patterns, monochrome tones and carefully curated shelving.

The payment area has also been transformed, drawing influence from the industrial charm of the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and the Biscuit Factory, with exposed brickwork and metallic finishes adding a stylish, modern touch.

Dean Ward, Director of Commercial at Newcastle Airport, said: “We have enjoyed a long and successful partnership with WHSmith and we are delighted to see the store reopen following its major transformation.

“The new design and layout not only enhance the shopping experience but also celebrate Newcastle’s unique character. We are confident the newly refurbished store will be hugely popular with our passengers.”

Andrew Harrison, CEO WHSmith Travel, said, “With our newly refurbished store at Newcastle Airport, we've really focused on elevating the shopping experience for our customers.

“From essential travel items like food to go and health and beauty products, to the latest tech and unique souvenirs, we’ve curated a store that meets every need. I’m incredibly proud of the end result and the dedication of our team in making this vision a reality.

“When people get into airports, one of the first places they go is WHSmith and we’re committed to offering an unmatched convenience shopping experience for customers on the go."

WHSmith is the latest outlet in the Airport’s departure lounge to be refurbished, joining JD Sports and Bar 11 which both reopened earlier this year.
