Our Board Members

Newcastle Airport is a public private partnership. Seven local authorities own 51% of the Airport company; Durham County Council, Gateshead Council, Newcastle City Council, Northumberland Council, North Tyneside Council, South Tyneside Council and Sunderland City Council. 49% is owned by a holding company, which is 51% owned by Aena Internacional and 49% by Infrabridge. 

Executive Directors

Nick Jones - Chief Executive Officer

Nick Jones - Chief Executive Officer

Nick Jones joined the Airport in 2015 becoming Chief Executive in 2016. Before joining the Airport, Nick spent six years at private equity backed Aesica Pharmaceuticals; prior to which he spent 13 years at PwC where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant before becoming a Corporate Finance Director.

Richard Knight - Chief Operating Officer

Richard Knight - Chief Operating Officer

Richard joined the Airport in 2012 and is Chief Operating Officer. He is responsible for aviation development, commercial activities and operations.

Richard spent 27 years in the RAF flying the Tornado F3. He was deployed across the globe before finishing his flying career in the Falkland Islands.

Mark Hunt - Chief Financial Officer

Mark Hunt - Chief Financial Officer

Mark Hunt joined the Airport in 2017 and is responsible for the Finance, IT and Property departments. Most recently, Mark was UK Finance Director at Northgate PLC, a FTSE-250 Support Services PLC. Mark qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte in 2002.

Chief Corporate Affairs Officer
Alice joined the business in 2024. Previously holding the role of Director of PR & Communications at Parkdean Resorts, Alice has over 20 years’ communications, marketing and environmental experience and will drive forward our Net Zero 2035 roadmap.

Cllr Paul Mackings, South Tyneside Council

Cllr Paul Mackings, South Tyneside Council

Cllr Paul Mackings is Leader of South Tyneside Council and a member of the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority Cabinet, where he is Lead Portfolio Holder for Home to the Green Energy Revolution. He also serves on the Transport for the North Board and Partnership Board. Cllr Mackings brings over 40 years’ experience in business, regeneration and economic development.

Cllr Chris Eynon, Sunderland City Council

Cllr Chris Eynon, Sunderland City Council

Cllr Chris Eynon was elected as Leader of Sunderland City Council in May 2026. With a professional background in financial services, Cllr Eynon is focused on delivering efficient, transparent and sustainable local government, working collaboratively across the city and region to make a meaningful difference for communities.

Cllr Andrew Husband, Durham County Council

Cllr Andrew Husband, Durham County Council

Cllr Andrew Husband was elected in May 2025 as a County Councillor for Chester-le-Street North. Cllr Husband is the Leader of Durham County Council, with portfolio responsibilities including external partnerships, council strategy and the County Durham Plan. With 15 years of blue-chip corporate business, he brings a wealth of valuable board experience into this strategic role.

David Rees, InfraBridge

David Rees, InfraBridge

David represents InfraBridge and has over 35 years of experience in infrastructure businesses. He has been a senior board member of many portfolio operating companies including Angel Trains, Alpha Trains, Wales & West Gas Network, Thames Water and London Luton Airport.

Justin Symonds, InfraBridge

Justin Symonds, InfraBridge

Justin represents Infrabridge and has over 30 years of investment management, investment banking and strategic advisory experience with corporate, financial and government clients in the transport and infrastructure sector. He also represents Infrabridge as a Non-Executive Director of London Luton

Rodrigo Marabini, Aena

Rodrigo Marabini, Aena

Aeronautical engineer (Msc), and Senior Executive diploma by IESE, with over 35 years’ experience in airports. Director of International Subsidiaries at Aena SME SA, with prior leadership roles in international airport operations as well as organisational and strategic consultancy. Board member across Latin America, UK, and Spain, mainly of airport operating companies.
