Newcastle Airport is gearing up to welcome a record number of passengers over the Easter weekend.
From Friday, 18 April to Monday, 21 April, more than 60,000 passengers are expected to travel through its terminal – a 10% increase from 2024.
The award-winning Airport will handle 414 flights across the four-day weekend, including additional services to popular European cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, Antalya, Malaga and Frankfurt.
A total of 275,000 passengers are expected to travel through the Airport during the Easter school holidays.
Among the most popular destinations will be sun-drenched favourites Alicante, Tenerife and Mallorca, while Dublin will be a top choice for those seeking a city break.
More than 30,000 passengers are expected to travel between Newcastle and destinations worldwide over the Easter school holidays thanks to the Airport’s multiple daily flights to hubs across the globe, including Dubai, London Heathrow, Amsterdam, Paris, Dublin and Frankfurt.
The hubs provide passengers with ‘one-stop’ connectivity to popular destinations worldwide, including New York, Hong Kong, Sydney and Mauritius.
The bumper Easter follows more than £20m of investment in the Airport, which was crowned ‘Best in the World’ at the Routes World Conference 2024.
A five-month £17m project to resurface the runway and adjoining taxiways – one of the largest investments in the Airport’s history – was completed last month.
A further £3m has been invested to improve the departure lounge experience and refurbish many of the Airport’s catering and retail outlets.
Bar 11 has a fresh, vibrant new look, where passengers can enjoy delicious food and drinks while taking in stunning views of the airfield.
JD Sports has been expanded and stocks a wide range of sportswear and holiday essentials from top brands including Nike, Adidas and The North Face.
WHSmith and Boots have also undergone major makeovers and now offer an enhanced selection of health and beauty products, food and drink and travel accessories.
Richard Knight, Chief Operating Officer at Newcastle Airport, said: “We are delighted to be offering our passengers more flights than ever over the Easter weekend.
“This growth not only highlights the fantastic range of destinations available from the Airport but also reflects the significant investment we have made to enhance the customer experience, including new technology which enables 99% of passengers to pass through security in under 10 minutes.
“Whether it is a short city-break, a relaxing beach holiday or a long-haul adventure, we look forward to welcoming passengers through our doors.”
