Newcastle Airport is preparing for its busiest Easter weekend on record with more than 70,000 passengers expected – almost a 20% increase compared with last year.
More than 450 flights will arrive and depart over the four-day holiday weekend, with additional services operating to destinations including Dublin, Alicante, Malaga, Faro, Rome and Malta.
Passengers are also set to venture further afield over the Easter holidays thanks to the Airport’s extensive worldwide hub connections, offering easy access to long‑haul destinations such as New York, Bangkok, Sydney and Hong Kong.
The rise in passenger numbers follows the opening of easyJet’s new base - offering nine new routes to Nice, Antalya, Corfu, Dalaman, Enfidha, Faro, Malta, Rhodes and Rome.
Ryanair has also based a third aircraft at the Airport, delivering four new routes to Brussels Charleroi, Budapest, Malta and Marrakesh, while Norwegian is operating flights to Copenhagen for a second summer season.
Nick Jones, CEO at Newcastle Airport, said: “There’s always a fantastic buzz at Newcastle Airport during the Easter weekend, and this year will be extra special as we get ready for our busiest on record with more than 70,000 passengers passing through our doors.
“Whether people are heading off for a well‑earned break in the sun, a European city break, visiting friends and family or a long‑haul adventure, this milestone reflects the growing demand for the choice, convenience and global connectivity we offer.
“It’s also a time when many visitors come to the North East to enjoy everything our incredible region has to offer, bringing significant economic benefits to the area.”
Passengers can fly to over 80 direct destinations and more than 300 onward connections worldwide from Newcastle Airport.
