Newcastle Airport ranked Top in CAA Accessibility Audit
Newcastle Airport has been put in the top category ‘Very Good’ in the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)’s most recent Accessibility Audit. The CAA’s Accessibility Code sets out standards for the provision of assistance at Airports for passengers that are living with a disability or have reduced mobility. The annual audit measures the Airport’s provision of services against this code.

The audit, which was conducted between April 2022 and March 2023, assessed all UK Airports that handled over 150,000 passengers.
Newcastle Airport scored highly in all areas, ranking ‘Good’ in the first three months of the period and then ‘Very Good’ for the other nine months of the report.
In feedback from passengers the Airport is regularly praised for its friendly and approachable staff and accessible facilities which are well-maintained and easy to use.
Richard Knight, Chief Operating Officer at Newcastle international Airport said: “We are delighted to have been rated ‘Very Good’ in the recent CAA Accessibility Audit. We are committed to providing a welcoming and accessible environment for all passengers, and we are always looking for ways to improve our facilities and services.”
“We were also recently named as one of the top 10 least stressful Airports to fly from in Europe by Condé Nast Traveller, the luxury travel magazine and our Passenger Services team work very hard to support disabled and passengers with reduced mobility to ensure they have the same access to air travel as anyone else.”
The Airport regularly consults with local disability groups and local community representatives to ensure it is providing the best possible service for all passengers. Over recent years the Airport has implemented a new passenger sensory area and an Autism Passport scheme. It has also recently invested in two new electric ambulifts and a new special assistance management system to make the service even more efficient.
This summer the Airport is expected to welcome over 1.3m passengers through its doors, with around 2,000 flights departing to popular destinations including Ibiza, Orlando, Cancun and Palma.
