Passengers have named Newcastle Airport as one of the best in Europe for providing exceptional customer service.
The Airport is to receive the award for the Best Airport in Europe, in the 2 to 5 million passenger category, at the prestigious Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards, which recognise airports worldwide for the quality of their customer service and are based entirely on passenger feedback while they are at an airport.
The Airport scored highly for its performance across the customer journey, notably check-in, security and its offerings in the departure lounge, with the award following a £20m investment in the Airport’s facilities throughout the last 18 months.
Nick Jones, Chief Executive at Newcastle Airport, said: “We are delighted to be recognised as one of the best airports in Europe and it is fantastic to know that we received this award because of our customers’ positive feedback.
“This recognition is testament to the dedication and hard work of our teams and business partners who go above and beyond to deliver a world class experience.
“As we look forward to the launch of new routes to Berlin and Copenhagen this summer and celebrating our 90th anniversary this year, I have no doubt that this award will inspire our teams to continue providing exceptional service to all who travel through the Airport.”
The accolade adds another top industry award to the Airport’s growing trophy cabinet after it was recognised as the ‘Best in the World’ at the Routes World Conference in Bahrain in October last year.
Graeme Ferguson, Head of Airports at InfraBridge, said: “We are delighted that Newcastle Airport has yet again been recognised for its customer experience and its commitment to service quality.
“This has been a key focus for the Airport's long-term strategy to deliver a great passenger experience as well as long term economic growth for the region."
Councillor Tracey Dixon, Leader of South Tyneside Council and lead of the LA7 shareholders, added: “This is another vote of confidence in Newcastle Airport.
“By putting travellers at the heart of the business and continuing to invest in passenger services, the Airport continues to go from strength to strength.
“Newcastle Airport is of pivotal importance, providing a key gateway to the region and generating millions of pounds for the local economy. I’m delighted that the Airport and the commitment of its team are being recognised in this way.”
2024 marked a milestone year for the ASQ programme with almost 700,000 surveys filled in at airports across the world.
Newcastle Airport and the other ASQ winners will formally receive their awards at the ASQ Awards ceremony in September, organised by the Airports Council International (ACI) World in partnership with travel technology company Amadeus.
