Newcastle Airport launches biggest-ever summer marketing campaign ahead of record-breaking year

Newcastle Airport has launched its biggest-ever summer focused marketing campaign as it prepares for its busiest year on record.

The ‘Summer is closer than you think’ campaign showcases the multi-award winning Airport’s largest ever summer programme to audiences across the North East, North Yorkshire and Scotland.

The campaign marks the Airport’s return to TV advertising for the first time in more than a decade, with adverts airing on ITV alongside major video-streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+ and YouTube.

Out of home adverts have also gone live across the catchments, supported by online programmatic display, digital audio and social media advertising.

Alongside the breadth of summer sun and city break destinations on offer, the campaign also highlights the ease of travelling through the Airport and its world-class services, including 99% of passengers passing through security in under 10 minutes.

To further support the marketing drive, a dedicated trade version of the campaign has been developed to support travel agents across the region.

This summer, the Airport will operate over 300 weekly flights to 37 popular city-break favourites such as Berlin, Barcelona, Copenhagen and Nice.

Sun-seekers can also enjoy up to 290 weekly flights to 40+ beach destinations, including Malta, Preveza and Reus and Corfu.

The Airport’s biggest-ever summer programme will be boosted by the launch of new routes to Nice, Porto, Preveza and Palermo in Sicily.

Passengers travelling further afield will also benefit from the Airport’s extensive worldwide hub connections this summer, making long-haul favourites such as New York, Bangkok, Sydney and Hong Kong more accessible than ever.

Alice Andreasen, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Newcastle Airport, said: “The summer season is always an exciting period for Newcastle Airport, and this year we’re proud to be delivering our biggest programme yet, with more seats on sale than ever before.

“We’ve created the Airport’s most ambitious summer marketing campaign to date. With a broad mix of audiences across a wide catchment area, we’ve adopted a carefully planned multi‑channel strategy to ensure our message reaches the right people at the right time.

“It has been fantastic to embrace emerging marketing technologies that allow us to intelligently target prospective passengers, while also returning to more traditional channels we haven’t used in over a decade, such as television.

“I’m confident that this blend of traditional and digital marketing will deliver a high‑performing campaign and play a key role in driving passenger growth over the next 12 months.”

The Airport’s busiest summer season comes as it prepares to welcome a record-breaking six million passengers this year.

The increase in passenger numbers is being driven by further investment from airlines, including easyJet opening a new base at the Airport in March.

To support this growth and enhance the passenger experience, the Airport will have invested nearly £60m across its site, including a terminal extension that will deliver a larger departure lounge and an expanded international arrivals baggage hall.
