Newcastle Airport has added another prestigious accolade to its collection after being crowned Airport of the Year at the Aviation Industry Awards UK.
Voted for by a panel of industry experts, the Airport was recognised for its award-winning customer service, significant network growth, infrastructure developments and sector-leading sustainability achievements.
The Airport beat Manchester Airport to the title following record levels of airline investment during 2025-26, which resulted in the launch of 22 new routes, including Berlin, Copenhagen, Lisbon and Nice.
easyJet also opened its new base at the Airport and has since more than quadrupled its route network, with flights and package holidays now on sale to 32 destinations.
The Airport was also recognised for investing almost £60m over the past couple of years to enhance its facilities and further improve the passenger experience.
At the heart of the investment programme was a three-storey terminal extension, delivering a larger departure lounge with additional seating and toilet facilities, alongside an expanded international baggage hall to help make the arrivals process quicker and more efficient.
An expanded security search area has also opened, helping to ensure 99% of passengers continue to pass through security in under 10 minutes.
Alongside the growth and investment, the Airport continues to make strong progress towards achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2035.
This includes achieving a 100% score in the 2025 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) assessment, ranking the Airport first in its sector for carbon reduction, biodiversity and sustainable travel initiatives.
