Security is our top priority
A key part of the security process is making sure our passengers do not take prohibited items on board and all passengers and staff at Newcastle Airport stay safe.
By following a few simple steps, you can help us make the security process quicker for you and other passengers. Allowing yourself plenty of time and knowing which items you can and can't take on board will save you time and make your journey more enjoyable.
Preparing for Security Search
To ensure a smooth start to your journey, we recommend all passengers arrive allowing enough time to check in and transit through security - please bear in mind that check-in and security can get busy during peak times.
Some airlines open check-in up to 3.5 hours before the flights scheduled departure time - we recommend passengers refer to the information provided by their airline with regards to when to arrive at the Airport.
On your next visit, you will notice we have recently implemented 'next-generation' security machines within our security search area. This means passengers can now leave liquids and electrical items in their hand baggage during security screening - making the process quicker and more efficient.
The rules for liquids have changed
Any liquids, aerosols or gels being carried in hand luggage must be in containers of up to 100ml.
Any liquids within double-skinned containers, such as thermos flasks or thermal water bottles, including single layered metal bottles are not able to be scanned and therefore will not be permitted through security. Empty double and single skinned containers are permitted.
Our top tips to prepare for security
With a little preparation, you can ensure your journey through security is as hassle-free as possible.
1. Empty your pockets and place all liquids, eyewear, electronics and other personal items in your hand baggage before arriving at security
2. On arrival to the search area, put your coat or jacket in the tray and place your hand baggage securely on top
3. Follow the Security Officer's instructions through the body scanner and collect your belongings on the other side
Please take care in preparing your belongings. We do not accept liability for any damaged goods.
