Hidden Disabilities

We know airports can be busy and sometimes overwhelming—especially if you’re travelling with a hidden disability. At Newcastle Airport, we want to make your journey as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Ahead of your journey

It may be helpful for you to familiarise yourself with the Airport environment before your journey so you and your travel companions know what to expect. We have prepared a handy document that explains what will happen at each stage of the journey and provides fun tasks to complete at the Airport to keep your mind occupied.

Reporting to the Assistance Desk

After you’ve checked in, please come to our Assistance Desk. This is where we can tailor the support you need for your journey. Whether it’s extra help getting around, assistance with security, or anything else, we’ll make sure your experience is as comfortable and smooth as possible.

Within Security

Quiet Spaces

Once you’re through security, you can relax in our quieter areas at Gate 31 and Gate 19—perfect if you need a calm spot to take a break.

Assistance Boarding Your Flight

If you need help getting on the plane, just talk to your airline about booking Passenger Assistance in advance.

Sensory Area

At Gate 31, we have a sensory area designed for passengers with hidden disabilities like autism, dementia, sensory sensitivities, or mental health needs. It’s a quiet place to help you feel calm if things get overwhelming.

You don’t need to book this area—just use it when you need. Please be mindful of others who may also be using the space for the same reason.
