Security

Passengers who are disabled or with reduced mobility are required to be security searched following directions from Department for Transport.

Such customers can avoid the walk-through metal detector but will be subject to a hand search of their person to a sufficient depth to ensure no prohibited articles are being carried. The security team is aware of varying disabilities and will conduct any searches as efficiently and sensitively as possible.

Any wheelchairs and or electric mobility aids are subjected to a visual search, hand search, and an explosive trace detection check to ensure that there are no prohibited items concealed.

Private search facilities are available at any stage of the security process and can be requested by the customer. This consists of two same sex security team members carrying out a hand search of the customer and their mobility equipment until they are satisfied that no prohibited items are being carried.

Assistance Dogs - Security Screening Process

To meet UK security standards, both you and your Assistance Dog are required to undergo security screening. We aim to make this process as smooth and efficient as possible.

At the security checkpoint, please place your personal items in the trays as instructed by the Security Officer. Your Assistance Dog’s harness may remain on during this step.

Next, you will be asked to step into the body scanner for the security check. For safety reasons, your Assistance Dog cannot accompany you through the scanner. A Security Officer will temporarily hold your dog while you complete the scan. As an alternative to this, you may request to bypass the body scanner and opt for a full-body hand search, which can be conducted in a private search room with your Assistance Dog present.

Following the body scan / body search, you will be asked to sit in a designated area while your Assistance Dog’s harness is inspected and swabbed for security purposes. Once the screening is complete, you may continue with your journey.

Before leaving the security area, please ensure you collect all your belongings from the trays. Should you need any assistance, our Assisted Travel and Security staff are available to help.
