Festive holidays and families reunited - It’s Christmas at Newcastle International Airport!

The team at Newcastle International Airport is gearing up for a busy Christmas period, with over 100,000 passengers expected to pass through its doors during the Christmas period.

More than 960 flights will be operating over the next two weeks, connecting the North East to destinations across the world.

Whether visiting friends and family, carving up the slopes, exploring somewhere new or chasing the sun, demand is high for festive flights this year!

Sought after destinations this winter include sunshine hot-spots in the Canary Islands, such as Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, as well as Dubai and the Algarve, Portugal.

In addition, new and existing city breaks are in high demand for explorers, including Milan, Riga, and Barcelona, operated over winter by Ryanair for the first time, plus Wroclaw and Gdansk. Dusseldorf, operated by Eurowings is also proving popular.

Investment in the Airport’s winter services, including easyJet resuming services to Geneva, provides passengers with more choice for action packed ski and snow sport getaways. This year, thrill seekers can access up to 17 top European resorts via Geneva, Salzburg, Grenoble, Innsbruck, Turin, Sofia and Stavanger.

Nick Jones, Chief Executive Officer at Newcastle International Airport said:

“It has been very chilly over the last few weeks in the North East, so it is no surprise that thousands are travelling to warmer climates this Christmas. It is great to see families gathering at arrivals to welcome their loved ones home to the North East for the holidays, but we have also noticed a big demand for a bit of Christmas sun. Whilst there are lots of scheduled flights over the festive period, the Air Traffic Control Team at the Airport are of course monitoring their radars to clear a path for the most important flight of all on the night before Christmas!”
