Charter season underway!
The Summer 15 charter season is underway at Newcastle International Airport as airlines and tour operators begin their busy summer schedules.
Nearly 3 million passengers will pass through the airport between May and October this year with approximately 850,000 passengers travelling on charter services to popular holiday destinations.
The summer season at Newcastle begins on May 1st and will see over 100 charter flights a week fly off to a range of sunny holiday destinations. This is in addition to the existing scheduled and low cost routes planned to operate this summer.
The start of the charter season also ties in with the busy Bank Holiday period. The airport is expecting over 25,000 departing passengers between Friday 1 May and Monday 4 May.
Chris Sanders, Aviation Development Director at Newcastle Airport, said: “Holidaymakers will be jetting off to exciting holiday destinations such as Turkey, Egypt, Greece, Malta, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the USA and Caribbean from the UK’s fifth largest charter airport.
“Our tour operator partners including Thomson, Thomas Cook, Jewel in the Crown, Just Sunshine, Olympic, Balkan Holidays, Red Sea Holidays and Belleair offer a wide range of destinations from Newcastle which we know are very popular with our passengers.
“Travellers dream about their summer holidays and we know that people spend a lot of time saving for and planning these special trips. This year, they can also enjoy a number of new bars, restaurants and shops which have opened as part of our £14 million departure lounge development. We’re delighted to be part of so many wonderful journeys each summer.”
This summer will see the launch of a number of new services. On 23 May United Airlines launches a new non-stop route to New York / Newark which will operate five times weekly. The route will operate from 23 May until 7 September and is on sale now. The route opens up travel across the US and Canada with over 300 connections available with United from Newark.
In addition, easyJet will launch new sunshine destinations of Split in Croatia, and the Greek islands of Corfu and Rhodes. Thomsons will begin to operate to Dubrovnik on 7 May, Thomas Cook launch Hurghada and Santorini this summer and Jet2 will begin to fly to Antalya, Larnaca, Malta, Zante and Enfidha (Tunisia) from Newcastle.
