Resurfacing works, A1 Allerdene Bridge, Gateshead.

DATE: 16-07-13

From Saturday 20th July, works will commence to resurface the A1 around Allerdene Bridge in Gateshead, lasting up to five weeks. These works will restrict traffic to one lane southbound, with two lanes northbound, in order to ensure that access to the airport is maintained without significant delay. From the airport, delays are however expected.

Overnight there will be road closures, with diversions in place. The Traffic Management procedures for these works are as follows:

A1 Southbound closure – Diversion route - Traffic is diverted of the A1 at Lobley Hill, diverted East on the B1426 before turning right into Kingsway North and South (Team Valley). At the junction between Kingsway and the A1 at Kingsway/Coalhouse Interchange traffic is diverted through Lamesley until it joins the A6127, taking a left to rejoin the A1 at Eighton Lodge.

A1 Northbound closure - Diversion route – The A1 is closed at Eighton lodge with traffic diverted of the exit slip road and diverted onto the A6127 towards Birtley, continuing for 0.6KM before taking a right and continuing through Lamesley rejoining the A1 at Coalhouse/Kingsway Interchange.

All diversions will be clearly signed and all closures will be in place between 21:00 and 06:00 the following morning.
