We've been working on our brand new 15-year Masterplan that maps out our vision for the future of Your Airport. It sets out our development proposals to 2040, where our passenger figures and economic impact on the North East region is set to grow significantly.
The Airport adopted the Masterplan in early 2026 following a four‑month consultation period, during which feedback was gathered from a wide range of stakeholders and local residents. Your input played a vital role in shaping the final Masterplan.
Grow our passenger numbers to 8 million by 2035 and 9 million by 2040.
The Airport will employ 5,000 staff on the Airport site by 2040, increasing from 3,200 in 2023*.
Partnering with 500 suppliers, rising from 270*.
Reach Net Zero by 2035 through projects including our solar farm and wind turbine development.
Supporting 32,000 jobs through its supply chain, up from 17,000*
The Airport will contribute £1.9bn in Gross Value Added (GVA) to the North East economy by 2040*
*2023 baseline figures
To make this happen, we would need to plan further growth related investments in infrastructure including a runway and terminal extension, pier extension, adding more aircraft stands and the sites of new major projects including AirLink - a proposed 750,000 sq ft cargo facility set to be built on-site.
