Bristol University Hospital Helipad Firefighter Course

Newcastle Airport Training Academy has successfully completed a course for the Bristol University Hospital Fire Fighters. Working together, the academy was able to design a bespoke 2 day firefighting course that covered aspects on raised heliport operations. The team of volunteers from the hospital will staff the raised Helipad providing fire cover and assistance to the Medical teams with casualty handling. The helipad will be linked to the adult emergency department, the Bristol Children’s Hospital and the nearby Bristol Heart Institute. Without the helipad in place, the process can be delayed up to 30 minutes.

Tim Oakes Training Academy Manager says “As an approved CAA Training provider we can add real value to our Bristol clients. Not only do we have a life size duel fuel raised helicopter platform that offers realistic scenarios, Newcastle International Airport manages a similar setup at the Royal Victoria Infirmary based in Newcastle upon Tyne. We as a training partner offer a real insight in to not only the firefighting aspect but also the day to day management of the heliport operation”.

The Academy received exceptional feedback during the course from the delegates during the course, some comments are listed below;

  • Very realistic tuition with professional firefighters
  • Hands on training using great practical scenarios
  • Well-presented course with friendly instructors who knew their subject
