Newcastle International Airport marked its 75th anniversary in 2010 with a year of celebrations.
Dave Laws, the airport's chief executive, said: “2010 was a very special year for Newcastle International as we reflected on our incredible history and took a look forward to an exciting future. The heritage of this airport, and the role it has played in the development of the North East region through the decades, is very important to all of us here.
“To celebrate this landmark, we arranged a number of events and activities throughout the year. We released a commemorative book, produced by the Newcastle Chronicle and Journal, and an exclusive exhibition of archive film, photography and memorabilia was displayed at Newcastle City Library, before touring other libraries during the summer months.
“On the anniversary day itself, 26 July, a number of our airline partners marked the occasion by operating aircraft rarely seen at Newcastle, which brought in thousands of aviation enthusiasts and the general public alike."
