The Eagle has landed

No, this isn’t some cryptic code, the eagle really has landed. And not just any eagle but the
Eagle Bar Diner. The very first to land outside of London has descended into the departures
lounge airside at Newcastle International Airport today, Monday 10 March 2008.

SSP UK CEO Nick Inkster, Newcastle Airport CEO Dave Laws and the brains behind the
Eagle Bar Diner concept Nicholas Dwyer were all present to celebrate its first flight become a
‘soaring’ success. The trio even tried their hands at makin’ and shakin’ cocktails under the
expert eye of the resident Mixologist.

Inspired by the diners of New York City, passengers can enjoy Eagle Bar Diner’s superior
diner-style a la carte menu in a comfortable yet lively setting. From breakfasts to brownies,
specialty burgers to cheesecakes and salads to steaks all freshly prepared on site, Geordieland
is now giving the Big Apple a run for its money.

The bar stocks an extensive selection of bottled and draught beer, wines, non-alcoholic
drinks and a range of hot beverages. For those with a more adventurous palette, why not kick
start your journey with a cheeky tipple from the cocktail menu.

Designed with ‘good times’ in mind, the décor takes its cue from the archetypal American
diner, with a sleek 21st Century twist that combines contemporary style with an easy charm.
The leather and wood tones compliment the coloured lighting and clean shapes of the
interior, all creating a young, vibrant atmosphere. The layout and design lends itself to both
an eating and drinking environment by day or night, boasting over 200 covers to suit families,
couples or lone travellers.

Eagle Bar Diner is the brainchild of club owner, Nicholas O’Dwyer, in his pursuit for the
perfect city ‘hang out’. Following a trip to the home of the diner New York, the Eagle Bar
Diner brand was born. Its ethos was to create a place that ticked all the boxes; great food,
great drinks, great service topped with a great vibe!

The original menu was developed under the expert eye of a Michelin starred chef who used
to cook for Elton John. After months of planning and refurbishment, in October 2002, the first
Eagle Bar Diner opened its doors to the public in London’s Rathbone Place located just
inches away from Oxford Street.

“We are very excited to bring the Eagle Bar Diner brand to the Northeast.” Comments
Nicholas O’Dwyer, “We feel it is the right product for the international airport environment, as
the menu caters for people from different time zones. Whether it be cocktails at 6.00am or
breakfast at 6.00pm!”

Nicola Boulter, head of commercial at Newcastle International Airport says, “We’re delighted
to be the first airport in the UK – and in fact the world - to welcome Eagle Bar Diner to our
departure lounge. It’s an honour to have been chosen as the location for their first restaurant
outside London and it is testament to the success of the airport that we are able to attract
such a prestigious brand.

“The Diner’s excellent food, classy cocktails and swift table service are sure to prove popular
with passengers who are looking for a relaxed restaurant experience before they fly.

“The opening of Eagle Bar Diner forms part of our wider plans to revamp and upgrade the
restaurants, cafes, shops and other facilities we offer to customers in the terminal.”

Nick Inkster, SSP Air’s CEO said: “Eagle Bar Diner makes an excellent addition to our
existing portfolio of catering brands. We share the same vision; to provide our customers with
a high level of quality through product, location and service and feel this will work particularly
well at Newcastle International. We are thrilled to be able to work with Eagle Bar Diner to
make this vision a reality.’
