
Emirates SkyCargo is the award-winning freight division of Emirates Airline. In the 2006-07 financial year , Emirates SkyCargo recorded strong growth across its network to carry 1.2 million tonnes of cargo, surpassing its record of one million tonnes carried in the previous year by 13.5 per cent. The division’s revenue of US$1.5 billion was $238 million, or 21.5 per cent, higher than the year before, and contributed 20 per cent to the airline’s transport revenue, one of the highest contributions of any airline in the world with a similar fleet make-up.
Scheduled freighters now operate to more than 25 destinations. In 2006, Emirates signed a contract for 10 Boeing 747-8Fs worth US$2.8 billion, and announced a commitment to purchase rights for 10 additional 747-8Fs. In 2007, Emirates SkyCargo commenced dedicated freighter services to Djibouti, Hahn, Barcelona Eldoret and Toledo, as well as seven new passenger-and-cargo destinations. In 2008, Emirates commenced daily services to Cape Town and has announced services to Guangzhou, Kozhikode (Calicut) and Los Angeles will commence later this year, offering more than 100 tonnes of cargo capacity in and out of each destination per week.
