Newcastle International has invested in an extensive water quality monitoring programme. This comprises continuous monitoring and regular sampling. The continuous monitoring system utilises the latest technology, in line with best practice at other airports. The system automatically analyses water leaving the site, and, if pollution is detected, the water is diverted to foul sewer. If the water is clean, it is allowed to enter the local water course, as consented by the Environment Agency.
