Newcastle International is one of the region’s greatest success stories. It brings wealth, jobs, new businesses – as well as new horizons – to the North East. A busy and thriving airport means a healthy and growing economy. We want to build on that success. We intend to move into the 21st century as one of Britain’s leading regional airports. We want to create more jobs, more wealth, more buzz. Our plans are bold, ambitious and exciting. But they are also, we believe, realistic, attainable and worthwhile. This is a vision not just for our future, but for yours as well.
Our Masterplan sets out the development that may be required to accomodate the future growth of Newcastle International up to 2016. It also explains how we intend to manage these planned developments while minimising any adverse impact on the local environment and local communities.
The plan accounts for a projected growth in passenger numbers to a maximum of 9.5 million by 2016, although we expect the actual figure to be somewhat lower.
Provision is made in the plan for developments to the following areas of the airport:
- Terminal building and pier
- Passenger apron
- Runway and taxiway corridors
- Car parks and landside ancilliary activites
- Airside ancilliary actvities
The Masterplan also includes a detailed assessment of the economic and environmental impacts of development. A full Environmental Appraisal outlines the impact of developments on noise, air quality, water quality, biodiversity, land use, heritage, agriculture, landscape and recreation.
